The first quarter of 2018 flew by so quickly and April is now upon us! What’s happening in Singapore this month, you ask? A lot!

Perhaps the most talked about event in Singapore this April is the world tour of Katy Perry which will make a one night stop in Singapore on April 8th. Then, there’s the Singapore International Jazz Festival starting on April 6th. The Singapore International Festival of the Arts is also opening on April 26th. Boxing fans can also look forward to Roar of Singapore IV where local boxer, Muhamad “The Chosen Wan” Ridhwan, will fight Filipino boxer, Jeson Umbal, for IBO Intercontinental Featherweight Title.

The Singapore International Jazz Festival is back for its fifth year! It is dubbed as one of Asia’s leading music festivals that should not be missed by jazz lovers in Singapore. The festival will feature 30 hours of live music by 12 world-renowned artists. Performances will be conducted across two stages at the Marina Bay Sands.

Party-goers can enjoy the music until dawn with a more intimate concert set-up at The Late Show on April 6 and 7.

Pet Expo Singapore is the Lion City’s largest pet fair. The Singapore Yacht Show is the only yacht show in Singapore that is fully supported by the Singapore Tourism Board and the international yachting industry. It is Asia’s leading yacht show that offers opportunities for the public to see some of the world’s grandest superyachts.

The Singapore Yacht Show will be held at ONE°15 Marina in Sentosa Cove. It features world class yachts from all over Asia. The yacht exhibition is complemented with fun entertainment and nightly parties.

The Singapore Yacht Show Gala Dinner, dubbed as the Sentosa Ball, welcomes guests on the first night. Yacht owners and industry captains will gather at the Grand Ballroom of the W Singapore for a night of entertainment and fine cuisine by the award-winning chefs of the W.

There will also be a silent auction during the gala dinner for the benefit of the Biosphere Foundation.

Run Free Singapore, as its name connotes, is a free run for everyone in Singapore. It was first conceptualized by X-Change Republic Pte. Ltd. and aims to break the concept that taking part in a run is costly.

Run Free Singapore adopts the no-frills concept. Runners can participate for free and have the option to purchase Run Free merchandise as add-ons. The event is divided into two categories, the 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre runs. The 5-kilometre run is open to everyone aged 14 and above while the 10-kilometre category is open to runners aged 16 and up.

Boxing fans in Singapore have something to look forward to this April! Roar of Singapore IV: The Night of Champions will feature local boxing favorite, the unbeaten Muhamad “The Chosen Wan” Ridhwan, who will battle it out with 23-year old Jeson Umbal of the Philippines for the IBO Intercontinental Featherweight Title. The winner of this bout will be one step closer to a shot for world title.

For the first time in Singapore, WBC No. 12 Michael Dasmarinas of the Philippines will fight WBC No. 4 Karim Guerfi of France for the vacant IBO World Title.

Completing the triple-header event will be Mirage Khan of Malaysia, who will challenge Chase “Hellboy” Haley of New Zealand for his IBO Oceania Title. The winner of the two will also earn the WBC Asia Boxing Council Light Heavyweight Title.

Roar of Singapore IV: The Night of Champions is promoted by Ringstar Management Pte Ltd. headed by multi-awarded former boxer, Scott Farell.

Singapore International Festival of Arts 2018 is the 41st edition of this annual event. It began in 1977 as a biennial event that showcased of the vibrant art forms found within Singapore’s diverse communities. This year’s festival is staged under a new Festival Director, Gaurav Kripalani, who is introducing the S$10 front row tickets for students, among other new policies.

For three weekends, audiences can choose from various showcases in music, dance, literary arts, and visual art, across more than 10 performance spaces.

Among the highlights of Singapore International Festival of Arts 2018 is the Southeast Asian Premiere of George Orwell’s “1984”. This stage adaptation of the literary classic was created by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan. “1984” is a Headlong, Nottingham Playhouse and Almeida Theatre production, presented by Singapore International Festival of Arts, GWB Entertainment in association with State Theatre Company of South Australia.

SIFA 2018: …Sodade…

An enchanting French evening of aerial circus performed to live music!

…Sodade… follows the story of an old man who was exiled for a long time and daydreams of his past in sweet nostalgia as the sea breeze caresses his skin. His recollection of his indelible memories inspires him to continue living, whatever it takes.

This nostalgic ode to life is performed by two musicians, playing and singing on a unique circus structure featuring huge twin wheels, each over two metres in width, with a 21-metre long tightrope cable strung in between.

…Sodade was created by Cirque Rouages, a production company based in Lorraine, France. The company has performed all over the world and spread inspiration to international audiences through their imaginative sets and breathtaking acts.

…Sodade… is a live music acrobatic show that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Performances are done in English and French.
