The performance, A Brooding Beast in the Corner (Brooding Beast in short) is an intimate dance-theatre production featuring four intimate solos and two duets. Reflecting on the distress caused by climate change and the geo-political flare ups in the world, the performance reaches out to the audiences for their perceptions of the place of individual amidst this apocalyptic time.
The show presents vulnerable individuals who move within the confined space of a dilapidated room. Their comes and goes reveal human frailty of solitude, alienation and yearning through their movement expressions. Fragments of texts from Franz Kafka’s Blue Octavo Notebooks are heard, shedding bits of clues on the unseen struggles and sufferings of the four solitaire performers.
Conceived by chief choreographer and Arts Fission Artistic Director Angela Liong, the performance features the Arts Fission Dancers Marveen Lozano, Andine Elaina, Aisha Polestico, and guest artist Gu Anran from Wuhan, China. The other collaborators are seasoned professionals such as lighting designer Tommy Wong, set designer Grace Lin Huili, and sound designer Varian Tan.
A school-only matinee will be held on 17 January, 3pm. Educators and students will be treated toan exclusive 30-min pre-show primerby Artistic Director Angela Liongfor an experiential engagement right by the intimate stage of the performance.
