Answer for foreigner buy property
Yes, foreigners can buy property in Singapore, but with certain restrictions.
Only Singapore nationals and permanent residents can avail of the subsidized housing by the Housing & Development Board (HBD).
HDB flats are government-subsidized housing units that are sold by the Housing & Development Board to the public under a 99-year lease agreement. Buyers can also avail of resale flats that are sold by previous owners that have met the Minimum Occupation Period. Prices of resale flats are not regulated by HBD.
Foreigners can own private apartment or condominium units as much as they can afford. There is no limit in the quantity of private apartments and condominiums that a foreigner can buy.
A condominium, also known as condo, is a residential unit that is within a building or a complex of buildings. Each condo unit is individually owned but unit owners share common areas within the building or complex like recreational facilities and laundry room. It is much like an apartment building except units are owned outright and not rented.
Permanent residents can buy a subsidized executive condominium, also known as semi-privatized executive condominium, 5 years after the building is completed. Foreigners can buy the same after 10 years.
Government approval is needed for foreigners to own landed residential properties like terrace houses and bungalows. The foreigner applicant must have an adequate economic contribution to Singapore. Interested foreigners may apply through the Singapore Land Authority.
There are no restrictions for foreigners who want to buy commercial properties in Singapore. These commercial properties include shops, offices, hotels, warehouses, factories, and shopping malls.

Answer for Top News Sites
When talking about news websites in Singapore, The Straits Times is definitely on the top of my list. I make sure to check it every morning while drinking my coffee to be updated with the latest stories in Singapore and the world. The website is the digital edition of the daily broadsheet. A paid subscription is required to access all sections of the site. However, you can read selected free content including podcasts which should be enough if you only want to read the major stories.
Another news website which I check regularly is Channel News Asia. This is the website of the Asian TV news channel that is based in Singapore. I like that the website is free. I also like the livestream which is helpful when I’m on the go and don’t have access to a TV set.
I also regularly visit Today online through its mobile app. For me, it functions better than the other Singapore news apps. The website and the app are both free, just like its print version which we see at MRT stations during our daily morning commute.
AsiaOne is also a popular news and lifestyle site that is owned by Singapore Press Holdings. I visit the site at least once a week for a different perspective on top news stories. The website is free and you can subscribe if you want the news to be delivered to your e-mail inbox. Just close the pop-up ads on the site if you find them annoying.
Mothership.sg is considered as an alternative news website. I personally don’t visit it as much as the other news sites but some of my friends are loyal readers. Mothership.sg also has a mobile app which is used by majority of its readers including me.
Fratini La Trattoria
MENU: Fratini La Trattoria doesn’t have menu! As we mentioned, the restaurant offers dishes according to ingredient freshness and availability. Their commonly served dishes are Rome-Style Grilled Scallops with Carbonara Crust, and Beef Roulade and Truffled Pappardelle Creamy Pasta. And to put the cherry on-top of a splendid Italian meal, they offer delicious classic Tiramisu cakes.
AVERAGE PRICE/PAX
- $45-$50++ for lunch
- $90$++ for dinner
AMBIENCE: Fratini La Trattoria is a classic Italian restaurant, with wooden panel floors, simple colors and sleek yet comfortable seating areas. There is minimal decoration, so you’re not distracted from the main event – the food! Fratini La Trattoria is ideal for a wine-and-dine style dinner, or a celebratory lunch for that special occasion.
Answer for Tipping in Singapore
Tipping is not customary in Singapore. You don’t need to worry about paying tip for using any services in Singapore.
However, there may be times that you want to reward a waiter or bellhop for providing excellent service.
TIPPING NOTES
Most restaurants in Singapore add a 10% service charge to the bill so a tip is not expected. If you insist on tipping your waiter, it is best to hand the cash directly to the person as some restaurants take the tips that are left on the table.
Tipping bellhops at hotels is not compulsory but acceptable. SGD1-2 per bag is reasonable.
Taxi drivers do not expect a tip. If you give them extra, they will automatically give back your change.

Woody Family Café: For An Escape Moment and A Dose of Nostalgia
At the first moment seeing Woody Family Café, a café-style restaurant located in the North outskirts of Singapore, we have seen the difference. Its outside look has the power of sparking people’s curiosity. It makes us want to step in and explore the inside world.
With Woody Family Café, you will go swiftly from one surprise to another. While its outside invites people to embark on a mini adventure, the space inside reminds them of the beautiful memories of the old days.
It is safe to say that Woody Family Café is a kind of gastronomic venue you have never seen in central Singapore. That unique and unusual world is the creation of a husband and wife duo, Jenny and Sam. They have combined their vast experience in F&B and entertainment with their personal interests to bring about a “little escape world” for food lovers.
If you need some reasons to persuade yourself to make a long journey to a café in the far north of the country, here are those inspirations:
1. Restaurant With A Touch of Green
Woody Family Café is surrounded by green plants, stretching from the façade to the side. You can also see trees and pots of plants lining the space in front of the restaurant. No matter where your table is, your eyes still can catch a slide of forest. Now you know why the word “Woody” is there in the name of the café.
2. Decoration That Fills Diners With Nostalgia
This café’s ceiling is decorated with lanterns and strings of sparkling lights, the kind of lights you see in Christmas time or in Asian suburb coffee shops in the old days. Its walls are full of posters and photos of the world’s all-time famous stars like Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, and Charlie Chaplin. When you enjoy food at the table covered by plastic tablecloths and your eyes scan through the dining room, you may feel your soul is taking a dose of nostalgia at the same time. Although the decoration is of no style, which seems an eclectic mix based on personal interests, it helps people take a stroll down memory lane.
3. Open-Air Dining Space With Laid-Back Ambience
When a restaurant is surrounded by plants, it is great to have a seat with a view of the greenery. At Woody Family Café, their many tables placed at a space like a veranda please diners with the views and the breezes. The whole restaurant exudes a relaxing vibe that allows you to dine and chat to your heart’s content.
4. Peranakan-Infused Menu With Vast Options
Woody Family Café features an interesting fusion menu that showcases both authentic nyonya and nyonya-with-a-twist dishes. Fans of Peranakan food can satisfy the craving with nasi ulam, beef rendang, chap chai, buah keluak omelette and many more.
But that is not all the restaurant can do for its customers. Adventurous diners will find it interesting exploring the menu section that celebrates the marriage of Western and Peranakan cuisines.
Have you ever tasted or simply heard about Spicy Peranakan Buffalo Wings, Squid Ink Pasta in Seafood Chilli Crab Sauce, Mama Laksa Burger With Fries, German Pork Knuckles in Garam Assam, or Lamb Shank Rendang in your life? If not yet, you can savour these at Woody Family Café. Their flavor is just as delicious as their names.
5. A Restaurant With Its Own Food Creations
When passion goes hand in hand with creativity, new creations are brought to life. And that is what you will witness at Woody Family Café when dishes like Homemade Onion Rings served on your table. This dish’s name is nothing special, but when your eyes see it and your teeth sink into it you will know the difference.
You can call it Onion Rings Tower if you think that is a more imaginable addressing. Yes, the dish really looks like a tower, with huge rings of onion stacked on top of each other. Its look is good, its taste is even better. You don’t want to pause any second when your taste buds have gotten to know the combined flavor of fried juicy, sweet onion and Woody’s Sambal sauce.
Now you know there is a little escape world in our city with great ambience and mouth-watering food for some getting away time. The restaurant is just the right place for families and groups of friends with a big love for home-style Peranakan viands. Make a trip there to change the backdrop for your late afternoon or dinner meal and, perhaps, to change the “menu” for your eyes when they get bored with the same scenes seen everywhere in the modern Singapore areas. Do this to freshen up your love for the day-to-day life.
You may want to come back after your first visit to the restaurant. Don’t hesitate to do so when your heart desires a little escape at weekend or when you have a special occasion to celebrate. The restaurant is open almost everyday of the year and has facilities to cater for up to 70 pax in a single event. This nostalgic gastronomic venue is especially perfect for holding a birthday or anniversary party for your parents or grandparents. They will like it.
Answer for How to get from Changi airport to city by MRT
For a super cheap way to get to the city from the airport, the MRT is a great choice! However, if you are carrying a ton of luggage, it may be difficult to maneuver!
The MRT station is situated at the basement of Terminal 2. You cannot help but find the way to Terminal 2 in order to get on board, no matter what terminal, 1, 2 or 3, you are arrived at. Make it simple this way:
- Know where you are (Terminal 1, 2 or 3).
- Follow the signs “Train to city” to get to the MRT station nestled at Terminal 2. If you are at Terminal 2 or 3, then you can walk to the station. Those arrived at Terminal 1 can reach Terminal 2 by riding the sky train.
- Buy the Ez-link card at the customer service counter at the basement of Terminal 2
- Tap the card at the card reader to get access to where the train pick up customers
- Get in the train (which only runs back and forth between Changi Airport station and Tanah Merah station)
- Alight at Tanah Merah station, you have to do so in order to catch a Green line train that will take you to city.
If your accommodation is somewhere close to a green line station like Kallang, Lavender, Bugis, City Hall and Chinatown, then you can easily get there by just riding the airport train and Green line train.
But if your hotel room is close to a station of Red line, Purple line or others, then you will need another transfer at an interchange station. See the map below for more ideas.
The MRT schedule is very frequent, with a new train every 7-9 minutes during peak hours (8am-9am; 12.30pm-2pm; 7.30pm-10.15pm), and 12-13 minutes during off-peak times. The MRT runs from 5.31am-11.18pm from Monday to Saturday, and 5.59am-12.06am on Sundays and Public Holidays.
Each time coming back to Singapore from an overseas trip, I choose to ride the MRT train to get home. Because it is very cost-effective, I need to pay only $1.25 for my ride. Time-wise, it takes around 30 minutes.
But I only recommend travelling by MRT if you are carrying light baggage.
If you and your travel mates have lots of luggage, you are recommended to go with an airport transfer service. Read more here: 5 Reliable Airport Transfer Services in Singapore.

Answer for What is ez-link card
WHAT IS EZ-LINK CARD?
It is a contactless smart transport card that allows you to use the MRT, LRT, buses, and taxis in seconds! You just need to tap and go. In my opinion, it is a lot more convenient than carrying around change and coins.
Previously, Ezlink card helps us to pay our transport fees only. But now, this powerful card allows us to pay the charges of many other things, including ERP, shopping, dining, and governmental service fees.
HOW TO USE EZ-LINK CARD?
Once you purchase your ez-link card, you can use the credit at any of the locations and services listed on this page. Make sure to tap your ez-link card on the designated card reader until you hear a ‘beep’ sound.
Your card comes preloaded with 5 or 7$ credit, depending on where you purchased it. Word of advice; you always must have a minimum of $3 to use the ez-link card. If the stored value is below that, you will be required to top it up at any of the island-wide top-up points.
There’s a variety of ways in which you can add money to your card, such as self-service machines at all SMRT and SBST/NEL stations, online, through the EZ-Link mobile app, customer service counters at MRT stations, or 7-Eleven and Cheers convenience stores. If you would like to set up auto-top up, you can sign up here, or apply at the AXS stations.
I also suggest that you download these two apps to benefit from your ez-link card:
- Download the EZ-link Activate app on your smartphone to track your transaction history, check your balance, block your card if you lose it, or deregister cards. I find this incredibly convenient when my balance is too low, so I am not stuck with no credit while trying to catch the MRT!
- Earn rewards as you travel with your ez-link card! All you have to do is link your card to the Perx app on your smartphone, and earn points for every trip you make. Once you have collected enough points, you can redeem them for a variety of rewards. If you’re a frequent traveler like me, you can gain rewards in no time!
Answer for S$200 budget travel
Given that you don’t care about things like eating expensive dishes (chili crab, international buffet at a 5-star hotel), shopping for branded fashion at Orchard’s malls, and visiting places with costly entry tickets such as Universal Studio. All you want in your trip to Singapore is to breath in the local air, taste local street food, take in the stunning sights, feel the daily life and culture. If that is the case, your S$200 budget can help you survive in Singapore 4 to 5 days.
Let’s do a rough calculation of the likely cost.
SLEEP: Get yourself a bed at a backpacker hostel. Checkout those cheap hostels that have bed options ranging from S$12 to S$20. Let say you choose one at $20/bed/day. So you need to spend S$20 per day for your accommodation.
EAT: Most backpackers in Singapore provide guests with free breakfast. If your hostel offers you instant noodles or sandwiches at its pantry, eat the food before heading out and save cost. You just need to pay for lunches and dinners. Food courts (hawker centre as locals called them) are where to have your meal deliciously and cheap. A dish there costs from S$3 to S$5. You can eat all the must-tries like chicken rice, laksa, hokkien mee and fried kuay toew at those reasonable prices (Singapore standards). So your S$10 budget can buy you enough food for a day.
TRANSPORT: Riding MRT and bus to save cost. Buy an Ezlink card to pay transport fees. A ride on MRT and bus costs from S$0.78 to S$2.03 and S$0.79 to S$2.07 respectively when you pay via Ezlink card. So walk when you can walk, catch a bus or MRT train when you can’t, and a budget of S$10 would be enough for a day.
SEE AND DO: There are a lot of free things to see and do in Singapore. Watching the daily life of locals on streets, shopping mall and wet markets won’t cost you any penny. No one ask you to pay when you enjoy the city landscapes and parks. The amazing light show at Marina Bay Sand is also free. There are enough of free things for you to enjoy in your a-few-day trip to Singapore.
