7 Forklift Safety Best Practices to Implement in Your Business
A common sight in industrial and storage spaces, forklifts provide immense convenience to many businesses. The presence of these machines in your facility turns lifting and moving heavy loads into easy and efficient tasks for anyone with the right skill, training, and certification.
To maximise the benefits offered by internal combustion and electric forklifts, it’s a must for your facility to adhere to well-established safety guidelines and best practices. Doing so allows you to ensure the safety of your team members and prevent possible losses due to damaged goods or other accidents. You can make safety a top priority without sacrificing efficiency by implementing the following best practices when using forklifts in your business:
Ensure That the Operator Has Proper Training and Certification
Make it a point that only trained and certified personnel can operate forklifts in your facility. This is one of the most critical safety measures that you should implement when working with forklifts. While they may appear simple to handle, forklifts are pretty complex and powerful machines. Putting these vehicles in the care of someone who does not know what they are doing can lead to accidents, including collisions and tip-overs.
Forklift operators who have undergone the right training are well-versed in the limitations and capabilities of the machine. Typical training courses for forklift operations cover subjects such as forklift controls, load handling, and driving techniques. Investing in the comprehensive training and certification of your forklift operators leads to a significant reduction of safety issues brought about by operator errors. Moreover, periodic refresher courses ensure that operators can stay up to date with the latest safety protocols.
Carry Out Daily Inspections Before Using the Vehicle
Before each shift, forklifts should undergo a thorough inspection to ensure they are in proper working order. This should include checks on critical components like tyres, brakes, lights, and hydraulic systems. If your electric forklift models come with added features like the capability to offer adequate cushioning to operators, check that the components for these features are fully functioning as well.
Identifying and addressing any wear and tear or malfunctioning parts during this assessment period can prevent accidents caused by equipment failure. This gives your team the opportunity to address worn tyres, which can reduce the forklift’s stability, or faulty brakes, which can lead to uncontrollable movements. Keep a detailed log of these inspections to ensure that your team is keeping up with regular maintenance schedules.
Familiarise Your Team with the Importance of Load Stability and Capacity Awareness
Forklifts have specific load capacity limits, and overloading it or improperly securing a load can easily cause accidents, such as tip-overs or damage to the forklift itself. Operators at your facility must be fully aware of the forklift’s capacity and ensure that loads are properly balanced and secured before moving. They should also be mindful of uneven loads or items that are not properly secured, as these can shift during transport and fall, or they could destabilise the vehicle.
Maintain Clear Visibility along the Forklift’s Path at All Times
It’s very important for forklift operators to have a clear line of sight when driving. This is especially true when they’re carrying large or bulky loads that obstruct their view. In such cases, it’s advisable for operators to tilt the mast slightly backward or drive in reverse to maintain visibility and avoid collisions with objects or people.
Additionally, having well-lit areas and clearly marked pathways helps improve visibility for both operators and pedestrians. Ensuring clear visibility is key to preventing accidents, as many forklift-related incidents occur due to blind spots or obstructed views. In some instances, working with a spotter can further enhance safety in areas with limited visibility.
Establish Forklift Traffic Rules and Communicate Them to Your Team
Setting up specific traffic rules for forklift operation within your facility is another crucial step in promoting safety. This means establishing designated forklift lanes, speed limits, and right-of-way protocols.
Implementing traffic rules creates an organised workflow where both forklifts and people can move safely and efficiently throughout the facility. The use of clear signage and marked pedestrian zones ensure that workers on foot are kept separate from forklift traffic. Forklifts should always have the right of way in their designated areas, but operators must still be cautious and yield to pedestrians in shared spaces. Putting such policies in place is an effective way of reducing the risk of accidents.
Use of Seatbelts and Safety Equipment when Operating Forklifts
Seatbelts are vital in preventing injuries during tip-overs, as they keep the forklift operator securely in the cab and prevent them from being thrown from the forklift. Additionally, requiring personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, and steel-toe safety boots helps protect operators from potential hazards during daily tasks. These rules should be implemented consistently to maintain high safety standards in the workplace.
Observe Safe Parking Practices within the Workplace Premises at All Times
When forklifts are not in use, it’s essential that operators follow proper parking procedures to prevent accidents. This includes lowering the forks to the floor, engaging the parking brake, and turning off the forklift. Improperly parked forklifts can roll or shift unexpectedly, which can pose a risk to anyone nearby. Forks left elevated or machines left idling can create tripping hazards or be accidentally activated. By enforcing strict parking protocols, you ensure that forklifts are always left in a safe and secure state and contribute to reducing the risk of accidents when the equipment is not in operation.
Remember: efficiency and convenience should never come at the cost of safety. While forklifts offer incredible convenience in moving heavy loads and increasing productivity, your team’s health and well-being must always come first. By creating a workplace culture that prioritises proper forklift use, you protect both your employees and your facility as well as enjoy the benefits offered by the use of forklifts without compromising on safety.

HARD MODE by Checkpoint Theatre
From the powerhouse team behind The Fourth Trimester (2023 Production of The Year, Straits Times Life Theatre Awards) and Normal (2015 and 2017), playwright Faith Ng, director Claire Wong, and dramaturg Huzir Sulaiman return with Hard Mode, a riveting deep dive into the world of Gen Alpha.
Adam has lived in Sengkang his whole life, and things don’t really change around here. Except nothing is quite the same anymore.
The indomitable Sengkang Squad — Adam, Rian, and XY — have split up into different secondary schools, and it’s been pretty hard making new friends (they’re betas with no rizz?). K-pop stan besties Arissa and Maya have found community in the huge online fanbase, but somehow nothing’s as lonely as real life.
With mounting pressures from parents, friends, school, and their own expectations, they don’t feel like children any longer — but also no closer to being grown-ups. What exactly is this limbo stage called teenagehood? And where is the tutorial for being an adult?
Critically acclaimed playwright Faith Ng’s new work embraces the beautiful messiness of youth and friendship with her keen understanding and sensitive portrayal of life as we know it. Huzir Sulaiman’s deft dramaturgy sculpts this illuminating work while veteran director Claire Wong delicately brings this masterpiece to the stage with affirming tenderness and unflinching honesty. With a fresh, exciting ensemble cast comprising Chaney Chia, Izzul Irfan, Janine Ng, Kyra Lefebvre, and Shahid Nasheer, Hard Mode confronts the joys, heartaches and adventures of coming of age.
A love letter to the perennial task of growing up and navigating the world, Hard Mode is essential viewing for the youth of today, and everyone who seeks to understand them.

The post-screening Q&A will be held in English.
Special thanks to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Negara Brunei Darussalam for granting permission to screen this film and to National Gallery Singapore for providing a copy of the film with English Subtitles.
This screening of Gema Dari Menara is part of The Idea of North 2024 – a four-day festival organised by Global Cultural Alliance to commemorate the 40th anniversary of bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and Singapore.

Clear Skin Ahead: Discover the Best Acne Treatment in Singapore
Acne is a common skin condition that affects individuals of all ages, causing pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and cysts. Effective acne treatment focuses on reducing sebum production, encouraging cell turnover, and preventing inflammation. The best approach typically combines topical and oral medications, lifestyle changes, and professional treatments. Here’s an overview of the best acne treatments:
1. Topical Treatments for Acne
Topical medications are often the first line of defence against acne. They help reduce bacteria, inflammation, and oil production on the skin’s surface.
- Benzoyl Peroxide: An antibacterial agent that kills acne-causing bacteria and reduces inflammation. Available in different strengths, it can be used as a spot treatment or applied to acne-prone areas.
- Salicylic Acid: A beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that exfoliates the skin and clears out clogged pores. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective for mild acne.
- Retinoids: Derived from vitamin A, retinoids (such as adapalene and tretinoin) promote skin cell turnover and prevent clogged pores. They are highly effective for moderate to severe acne but can cause irritation initially.
- Azelaic Acid: A gentle option that targets bacteria and inflammation while improving post-acne hyperpigmentation.
2. Oral Medications for Acne
For more severe or persistent acne, oral medications may be prescribed. These work internally to target the root causes of acne.
- Antibiotics: Doxycycline and minocycline are commonly prescribed to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria in moderate to severe acne. Long-term use is discouraged due to the risk of antibiotic resistance.
- Oral Contraceptives: For women with hormone-related acne, birth control pills that regulate hormone levels can help control breakouts. The effectiveness of oral contraceptives for acne can vary from person to person. It’s important to discuss potential side effects and suitability with your doctor.
- Isotretinoin: A potent oral retinoid, isotretinoin (commonly known as Accutane) is reserved for severe or cystic acne. It reduces sebum production, unclogs pores, and has long-lasting effects. However, it requires careful medical supervision due to its potential side effects.
3. Clinic Treatments for Acne
Professional acne treatments performed by doctors or dermatologists can effectively treat acne and help minimise scarring.
- Chemical Peels: These involve applying a chemical solution (such as glycolic or salicylic acid) to exfoliate dead cells and promote new skin growth. Peels can reduce active acne and improve skin texture.
- Laser and Light Therapy: Laser treatments, such as pulsed light and blue light therapy, target acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation. Laser resurfacing can also improve acne scars, making it a popular option for both active acne and post-acne scar treatment.
- Cortisone Injections: For large, painful cystic acne, cortisone injections can quickly reduce inflammation and swelling, often clearing the cyst within a few days.
- Specialised Treatments: Specialised treatments often combine advanced skincare technology with personalised care to address individual needs, complementing other medical or cosmetic treatments for a more holistic approach.
4. Lifestyle and Skincare
A consistent skincare routine and lifestyle changes can complement medical treatments and prevent future breakouts.
- Gentle Cleansing: Use a mild cleanser to remove excess oil and dirt without over-drying the skin.
- Oil-Free Moisturisers: Even oily skin needs hydration. Choose non-comedogenic, oil-free moisturisers to maintain the skin’s moisture balance.
- Sun Protection: Sunscreen is essential, especially when using acne treatments like retinoids, which can increase sun sensitivity.
- Healthy Diet: Reducing sugar and processed foods may help manage acne by minimising hormonal fluctuations.
- Stress Management: Stress is known to worsen acne, so practices like mindfulness, yoga, and regular exercise can help.
5. Natural Remedies for Acne
While not as clinical as medical treatments, some people find natural remedies helpful in managing acne.
- Tea Tree Oil: A natural antiseptic that can reduce inflammation and fight bacteria. It’s a popular choice for mild acne.
- Aloe Vera: Known for its soothing properties, aloe vera can help reduce redness and inflammation associated with acne.
Summary: Your Path to Clearer Skin with the Right Acne Solution
There is no one-size-fits-all solution for acne treatment. The best approach depends on the type and severity of your acne, your skin type, and how you respond to various treatments. Options such as topical treatments, oral medications, and professional interventions, combined with lifestyle adjustments, can all be effective strategies. Consulting a doctor or dermatologist is often the best way to tailor a treatment plan to your specific needs, ensuring optimal results with minimal side effects.
Travellers’ Health and Vaccination: Essential Tips for a Safe and Healthy Journey
Travelling can be an exciting adventure, but without the right precautions, it can also expose you to unexpected health risks. By planning ahead and taking preventive measures, you can safeguard your health and enjoy a worry-free trip. From vaccinations to emergency preparedness, here are essential tips to ensure your journey is both safe and smooth.
1. Travel Medication
If you take prescription medications for existing health conditions, ensure you have enough for your entire trip, plus extra in case of delays. Carry your medications in their original packaging, along with a copy of your prescription. It’s also wise to pack over-the-counter medications for common travel ailments, such as pain relievers, antihistamines, and digestive remedies. If you’re travelling to areas where certain diseases are prevalent, consider bringing preventive medications like antimalarials.
2. Travel Health Vaccinations
One of the most important steps before travelling is ensuring you have the necessary vaccinations. Depending on your destination, vaccines for diseases like yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis A, and malaria prevention may be required or recommended. Make sure to check health advisories for your destination and consult a doctor to get up-to-date information on which travel vaccinations are necessary.
3. Travel Health Insurance
Travel insurance that includes medical coverage is important. It ensures that you can access healthcare services if needed, whether for illness, injury, or an unexpected medical emergency. Ensure that your travel insurance covers any pre-existing conditions, hospital stays, and medical evacuations.
4. Food and Water Safety
When travelling, especially to regions with different food and water standards, take precautions to avoid foodborne illnesses. Drink bottled water, avoid ice cubes, and eat food that is thoroughly cooked. Fruits that can be peeled are generally safe, while raw or undercooked food may pose a risk.
5. Personal Hygiene
Maintaining proper hygiene while travelling is essential to prevent illness. Wash your hands frequently, use hand sanitizers, and carry disinfectant wipes to clean surfaces like aeroplane trays or hotel room items. Good hygiene practices can significantly reduce the risk of contracting infections while travelling.
6. Environmental Risks
Some destinations may expose travellers to environmental hazards such as extreme heat, altitude sickness, or diseases like dengue and malaria. Depending on your destination, you may need to take extra precautions, such as using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves, or taking preventive medications.
7. Know Your Travel Routes
Understanding your travel routes is essential for safety and comfort. Plan your journey ahead, especially if it involves remote or high-risk areas where healthcare facilities may be limited. Make sure you are aware of the nearest hospitals, clinics, or medical centres along your route, especially if you’re travelling through areas prone to natural disasters or political instability. Being familiar with evacuation routes, transport options, and local emergency contacts can be vital in case of an emergency.
8. Emergency Preparedness
It’s important to be prepared for potential health emergencies while travelling. Familiarise yourself with local emergency numbers and healthcare facilities at your destination. Carry a basic first aid kit with essentials like bandages, antiseptic cream, tweezers, and water. Make sure you have a plan for how to seek medical care if necessary.
Conclusion: Stay Safe and Healthy on Your Journey
Taking the time to prepare for potential health risks while travelling is essential for a smooth and enjoyable trip. By ensuring you’re vaccinated, packing necessary medications, securing travel insurance, and staying aware of environmental and food-related risks, you can protect your health throughout your journey. A little preparation goes a long way in keeping you safe, so take these steps before you set off to enjoy a worry-free adventure.
How to Choose a Health Screening Package in Singapore
Why Is Health Screening Important?
Health screening in Singapore plays a vital role in preventive healthcare, offering the opportunity to identify potential health issues before they become serious. Early detection is crucial in managing or even preventing certain conditions and complications. With many screening packages available, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. This guide will help you make an informed decision and select the package that best suits your needs.
1. Understand Your Health Needs
The first step in selecting a health screening package is understanding your personal health needs. Factors like age, family medical history, lifestyle habits (such as smoking or physical activity), and existing medical conditions can influence which tests are most relevant for you. For instance, someone with a family history of heart disease may need screenings for cholesterol and blood pressure, while others may benefit from diabetes or cancer-related tests.
2. Consider Your Age and Gender
Health screening needs vary by age and gender. Younger individuals may require basic tests such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose levels, while older adults should consider comprehensive screenings for age-related health risks, such as bone density tests and ECGs. In Singapore, women aged 25 to 69 are advised to undergo PAP smears every three years, with regular mammograms recommended after age 50. Men over 50 may benefit from prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests to screen for prostate cancer. For more details on recommended health screenings, refer to the MOH’s health screening guidelines.
3. Know What Tests Are Included
Health screening packages typically include a range of tests, from basic to comprehensive. Common tests may include:
- Blood tests to measure cholesterol, blood sugar, and liver function.
- Urine tests to check for infections or kidney issues.
- Imaging tests like chest X-rays, ultrasounds, or ECGs to assess organ health.
- Cardiovascular tests for evaluating heart health.
Understanding the tests included in various packages ensures that you’re receiving the screenings most relevant to your health.
4. Decide Between Basic or Comprehensive Screenings
Health screening packages often range from basic to comprehensive:
Basic Health Screening
Basic packages cover essential tests like blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose. If you’re generally healthy with no major risk factors, a basic package may suffice.
Full Health Screening
Comprehensive packages include more advanced screenings such as cancer markers, imaging tests, or bone density scans. If you have a family history of chronic illness or are concerned about a specific condition, a comprehensive package might be a better option.
5. How Often Should You Do Health Screenings?
The frequency of health screenings depends on your age, risk factors, and overall health status. Younger, healthy individuals may only need to undergo screening every few years, whereas older adults or those with pre-existing conditions may require more frequent testing. It’s important to consult a healthcare professional to determine the right schedule for you.
6. Compare Costs
Health screening packages can vary in cost depending on the number and complexity of tests included. It’s important to compare different packages and ensure that you’re getting value for your money. Keep in mind that the cheapest package may not always be the best option if it lacks essential tests relevant to your health needs.
7. Consult a Doctor
Before selecting a health screening package, it’s helpful to consult a doctor who can assess your health needs and risk factors, recommend the necessary tests, and guide you in choosing the most appropriate package.
Summary: Stay Proactive with the Right Health Screening Package
Choosing the right health screening package is key to staying proactive about your health. It starts with understanding your unique needs and knowing which tests are most relevant to you. By factoring in your age, gender, family history, and potential health risks, you can find a package that fits your profile – striking the perfect balance between cost, convenience, and comprehensive care. Taking this step empowers you to take charge of your well-being and prevent potential health issues early on.

3 Gaming Laptops in Singapore That Every Gamer Will Love 2025
Are you a gamer looking for your next gaming laptop? We’ve done the hard part and brought you the best 3 gaming laptops in Singapore [2025 reviews]. Whether you’re a full-time live streamer passionate about gaming or an amateur looking to get better, these laptops are suitable for gamers of all experience levels.
A gaming laptop is a major investment, so it only makes sense to buy something that performs well, lasts long, and looks great. We kept all these things in mind when looking for the best machines. But before we unveil the winning models, let’s take a step back and empower you with information to help you select the best gaming laptop.
Things to Consider When Buying Gaming Laptop
You should consider several factors before buying a gaming laptop, which will ultimately determine its power, capabilities, and price.
Here are the most important specifications to look out for:
- Processor: Opt for a powerful processor like an Intel Core i7 or i9, or an AMD Ryzen 7 or 9. These CPUs can handle demanding games and multitasking. Some of the latest models now feature AI accelerators, which are specifically made for handling higher workloads like in those VR or AI-based games.
- Graphics Card: The graphics card is crucial for gaming performance. Look for a dedicated GPU from NVIDIA GeForce RTX or AMD Radeon RX series. Higher-end models with more VRAM are better suited for high-resolution gaming.
- RAM: At least 16GB of RAM is recommended for smooth gaming, but 32GB or more is ideal for heavy multitasking.
- Storage: A solid-state drive (SSD) is essential for faster boot times and loading speeds. Consider a combination of an SSD for the operating system and games and a hard drive for additional storage if you need it. And if it’s an NVMe SSD, you’ll get even quicker boot up.
- Display: For smoother gameplay, choose a display with a high refresh rate of 144Hz or higher. Look for good panel quality, accurate colors, and wide viewing angles. OLED screens are becoming popular, but they come at a steep price tag.
- Battery Life: While gaming laptops are primarily designed for performance, consider battery life if you plan to use them on the go. While they can last for hours for regular use, don’t expect too many hours for continuous gameplay.
Other Important Factors
Besides technical specifications, pay attention to other factors like the weight and size of the laptop. Gaming laptops have traditionally been bulky and heavy, which makes them clunky to carry around. However, that’s changing as companies are going toward slimmer, lighter bodies. If you need a laptop that’s easy to carry around, look for a model with a slim design and lightweight construction.
Also, check out any proprietary features and technologies, especially for graphics rendering, cooling, and performance optimisation.
Lastly, you should consider your budget. A quality gaming laptop can range from S$2,000 to S$5,000. You may be able to customise your laptop and add more memory and storage. But be prepared to shell out more money for these add-ons.
Here are our picks for gaming laptops:

Razer is a beloved name in the gaming world, and the Razer Blade 16 laptop tells why. 4 Things to Look for in a Forklift Rental for Your Business Needs
Forklifts are essential equipment for many industries. However, they also represent a significant investment and not every company requires one on a permanent basis. You might be handling a short-term project or experiencing seasonal spikes in demand. In these and similar cases, renting offers the flexibility and financial benefits that many businesses find appealing. Indeed, a forklift rental can be a practical and cost-effective solution for businesses that need to meet temporary obligations, manage fluctuating workloads, or simply avoid the ongoing costs associated with forklift ownership.
That said, the convenience of renting comes with the responsibility of making an informed choice. This will help you ensure smooth, safe operations, as well as avoid inefficiencies and unexpected costs. As such, it is essential to carefully evaluate your options before committing to a particular forklift rental. The more you know about what you specifically need and what to look for, the better-positioned you’ll be to make a decision that supports your business goals.
Here are a few key factors you should consider when renting a forklift for your business:
Lifting Capabilities
Every business has unique lifting requirements and not all forklifts are built to handle the same tasks. A forklift’s capacity to carry and move materials varies significantly across models, so you’ll need to match the machine’s capabilities to the demands of your operation. Consider the heaviest load your business handles regularly and the maximum height at which you need to lift these loads. If the forklift is underpowered for the job, it can strain the equipment and endanger your workforce, leading to costly delays and accidents.
It’s also worth considering the physical dimensions of the materials you intend to move. When dealing with materials that are bulky, irregularly shaped, or particularly large, standard forklifts might not always be up to the task. In such cases, specialised forklifts, like side loaders or multi-directional forklifts, can be invaluable. As their name implies, side loaders are designed to pick up and transport items from the side of the machine. They are ideal for long loads like pipes, timber, or metal rods. Meanwhile, multi-directional forklifts can move in any direction—forward, backward, or sideways—without needing to turn. This capability is especially beneficial when navigating narrow spaces or transporting wide or awkwardly shaped loads.
Fuel Type
The type of fuel that a forklift uses has a direct impact on its performance, operational costs, and suitability for different environments. For indoor use where ventilation might be a concern, the best choice are electric forklifts. They run quietly, produce no emissions and have lower operating costs in terms of energy consumption. However, they require regular charging and might not be suitable for long shifts without a break for recharging. This makes them less ideal for continuous, heavy-duty outdoor operations that require you to minimise downtime.
On the other hand, diesel and propane forklifts are better suited for outdoor environments. In particular, diesel forklifts are known for their power and endurance, so they’re perfect for heavy lifting in rough terrains. They can handle long hours of use without the need for frequent refuelling, which is advantageous in demanding outdoor settings. Meanwhile, propane forklifts offer a middle ground. They are usable both indoors and outdoors, provided that there is proper ventilation. They also have a lower environmental impact compared to diesel but still deliver sufficient power for a range of tasks.
Operating Environment
The environment in which your forklift will operate plays a critical role in determining the right type of equipment to rent for your needs. Indoor environments, such as warehouses or distribution centres, typically have smooth, flat surfaces, and may require manoeuvring through narrow aisles or around tight corners. In such settings, a compact, agile forklift with a smaller turning radius is ideal. In addition, forklifts used indoors must comply with emission standards. This makes electric models a popular choice due to their zero emissions and quieter operation.
Conversely, outdoor environments present different challenges that necessitate more robust equipment. If your forklift will be used on uneven or rough terrain, such as at construction sites or in lumberyards, you’ll need a model that can handle these conditions without compromising stability or performance. Forklifts designed for outdoor use often have larger tyres with better traction and more powerful engines, enabling them to navigate challenging surfaces and perform heavy lifting tasks with ease.
Safety Features
When renting a forklift, safety should always be a top priority. Ensure that the equipment has up-to-date safety features to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries. Fortunately, many modern forklifts often come with a variety of safety enhancements, such as backup alarms, safety lights, and advanced stability controls, which help operators navigate busy or confined spaces with greater ease. These features are particularly important in environments where forklifts operate in close proximity to workers or other machinery.
You should also verify that the forklift you intend to rent complies with all relevant safety regulations and standards. A reputable rental company must provide documentation on the equipment’s safety certifications and maintenance history; this confirms that it is in optimal condition for use. Some rental companies also offer training services to ensure that your staff is fully up to speed on best practices for operating your chosen forklift. Even if your operators are experienced, refresher training can be beneficial, particularly when using unfamiliar equipment.
In just about any industry, the right equipment is more than just a tool—it’s an investment in your business’s future. Your choice of forklift rental can make a major impact on your business’s productivity, safety, and overall success. Consider your needs and the above factors carefully to make the most informed decision possible in support of your operational goals.
4 Hard Lessons Learned in SEO Growing a Site from 0 to 20k Traffic
SEO today is challenging. Unlike the early 2000s, when keyword stuffing could easily land a page on Google’s first page, the landscape has drastically changed. While many SEOs focus on technical, local, and on-page optimization, what truly drives results is clear: links, links, and more links — according to Marcus from Three Little Pigs agency.
His agency once took a site from 0 to 20k global traffic:
Here are the key lessons Marcus learned:
Lesson 1: Links, Links, and More Links Matter
Research indicates that 96.55% of websites receive no traffic, mainly because their pages, although indexed, are buried deep in Google’s search results. One of the most significant factors in driving traffic from search engines is backlinks. Despite years spent refining technical SEO aspects like alt tags, no traffic was achieved without backlinks.
Studies consistently show that backlinks are the most crucial ranking factor. Google’s ranking algorithm, PageRank, heavily relies on backlinks. An independent study of a million pages demonstrated a strong correlation between the number of backlinks and organic traffic.
The two most critical factors for high-quality backlinks are:
Relevance:
For a Singaporean SEO services agency, backlinks from other digital marketing sites or relevant sources are essential. Local publishers linking to the site are also ideal. One may find outsourcing SEO growth to a consultant who acquires links from non-relevant sites only increases domain authority without improving rankings.
Authority:
Getting published in mainstream media and high-authority sites can significantly boost link authority. Local news and publisher sites that feature and link to the site can pass substantial link authority.
Lesson 2: Keyword Research Matters
Keyword research is essential. Identifying less competitive keywords that are realistic to rank for is crucial. This involves analyzing competitors to understand what they are ranking for and gaining insight into the competition. Targeting heavily competitive keywords like “insurance” as a first attempt is futile because ranking for such terms is nearly impossible.
However, even the best-researched keywords won’t generate traffic without backlinks. Backlinks are necessary.
Lesson 3: People and Processes Matter
Writing all the articles and content oneself is possible, but unless there is a deep passion for the subject, burnout is inevitable. Writing extensively about SEO can lead to exhaustion. The professionals, however, have teams, processes, and people in place when building sites from the ground up.
Link building, for the most part, is scalable only through people and processes, including:
- SEO Prospectors
- Outreach Managers
- Content Writers (for guest article writing)
- SEO Leads (to manage the entire team)
Outreach for backlinks manually on one project is challenging. Scaling up while managing multiple SEO clients requires processes and people. It’s nearly impossible to execute SEO and manual white hat link building at scale without them.
Lesson 4: Project Management Matters
Once people and processes are in place, the next challenge is ensuring they work together effectively. Coordinating a team can be a significant challenge, but it is essential for successful SEO campaigns. This is where project management becomes crucial.
Google Sheets is used to manage almost everything. It’s a free, inexpensive, and highly adaptable tool that can be customized for various project management needs. Google Sheets allows for task tracking, deadline management, and ensuring everyone is aligned.
Scaling a site’s traffic to 20k was accomplished using only Google Sheets for project management. The key was getting multiple people to communicate and work together on one sheet.
- Task Tracking: Create a task tracker where each team member’s responsibilities are clearly defined. Include columns for task descriptions, assigned personnel, deadlines, and current status to provide a comprehensive view of what needs to be done and who is responsible.
- Communication: Ensure that the sheet is regularly updated and accessible to all team members. This transparency helps maintain clear communication and prevents misunderstandings about task assignments and deadlines.
- Collaboration: Google Sheets supports real-time collaboration, which is crucial for a team spread across different locations. Team members can simultaneously work on the same document, leave comments, and make edits visible to everyone instantly.
Pro tip: Mastering VLOOKUP and other advanced Google Sheets commands can be extremely beneficial. By effectively leveraging Google Sheets, project management processes can be streamlined, ensuring smooth team collaboration and maintaining a clear overview of SEO campaigns. This organized approach is vital for managing complex SEO projects and achieving significant traffic growth.
Conclusion
On-page and technical SEO were not emphasized as hard lessons because years were spent fiddling with title tags and trying to optimize page speed without significant results. Ultimately, backlinks matter the most, along with keyword research and targeting realistic keywords. Scaling up link building with an offshore team is essential for success.
